At Nerites™ Corporation (Nerites), we combine world class technology from world class scientists with a management team that has a proven track record of bringing technical innovation to market. The company was founded in 2004 to commercialize technology developed by Dr. Phillip Messersmith at Northwestern University's Biomedical Engineering Department.

To date, Nerites has been funded by private investments, product sales, and federal business grants.


Mission

Nerites Corporation develops novel tissue repair products and anti-bacterial coatings for medical devices based on unique water-resistant adhesive technology.


Corporate Milestones

July 2007

Cover article in Nature about Nerites' new GECKEL™ adhesive that combines the sticky prowess of geckos and mussels. The new product increases wet adhesion 15-fold and can be reused more than 1,000 times.

May 2007

Nerites receives grant to develop synthetic, biodegradable tissue adhesives by mimicking mussel protein glues.

March 2007

Nerites receives a $100,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The grant will fund research on Nerites' novel biodegradable, water-resistant tissue adhesives.

October 2006

Nerites announces closing of a new round of financing, bringing the total raised to $3 million in two years.

September 2006

Nerites opens an office in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Nerites receives its first Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant award from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health. The Phase I grant supports research toward coatings to reduce or eliminate bacterial fouling of dental unit waterlines, a persistent problem in dental healthcare.

January 2006

Nerites opens a new research and development facility at University Research Park in Madison, Wisconsin.

November 2005

Nerites named Notable Innovation of 2005 by Industry Week.
